What is Juvelook?
Juvelook is an injectable drug that combines non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid with Poly-DL-lactic acid (PDLLA), and is classified as a type of skin booster.
After injection, it is slowly absorbed into the body over 1-2 years, during which time it stimulates fibroblasts and naturally increases collagen and elastin, providing long-lasting effects.
Because it uses lactic acid, which is also present in the human body, it has a low risk of allergies and high safety.
The English spelling is “JUVELOOK”.
This is a combination of JUVE (youth, vitality, energy) and LOOK (appearance, expression).
It is also a highly safe product that has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA), which are equivalent to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
A Korean-originated skin booster certified by Korea’s KFDA
Juvelook has won awards for two consecutive years (2022, 2023) in the Korean consumer skin booster category.
At the Korea Consumer Award 2023, a total of 41 brands, including Starbucks, Terra, and Juvelook, were selected.
Juvelook is gaining attention as the next-generation skin booster after Rejuran. In Korea, it has already been used by over 400,000 people. (As of December 2023)
Types of Juvelook
It’s not widely known, but there are actually two types of Juvelook. They are as follows:
- Juvelook
- Juvelook Volume = Lenisna
➊ Juvelook is the better-known version, so when people say “Juvelook,” they generally mean this one.
❷ Juvelook Volume is often referred to as “Lenisna” in Japan. However, in Korea, it’s more commonly called “Juvelook Volume”.
Differences between Juvelook and Juvelook Volume (Lenisna)
- What’s the difference between the two?
- スマスキ医師
The concentration and particle size. This affects how much volume they create. As its name suggests, Juvelook Volume (Lenisna) excels at creating volume, making it particularly good for deep wrinkles like nasolabial folds.

Four Key Features of Juvelook
1. Long-lasting effects
Poly-DL-lactic acid (PDLLA) continuously stimulates fibroblasts in the skin. This promotes collagen production. After injection, it slowly breaks down into water and carbon dioxide within the skin over 1-2 years. Therefore, unlike conventional hyaluronic acid preparations, Juvelook nurtures the skin over an extended period.
The following is the official Juvelook YouTube video that explains how Juvelook works. (Note: The video is in English)
2. Few side effects
Juvelook uses a substance called “Poly-DL-lactic acid (PDLLA)”. In the same category of poly-lactic acid preparations as Juvelook, there are Sculptra and Macoom.
Sculptra had particles with a pointed shape, which could strongly stimulate surrounding cells and carried a risk of creating subcutaneous nodules.
Macoom is an introductory drug for Potenza. While it significantly reduced the risk of subcutaneous nodules that were common with Sculptra, it is not approved by the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) for direct injection into the skin.
Unlike Sculptra or Macoom, Juvelook is designed with rounded particles. Therefore, the risk of creating subcutaneous nodules is minimal. Moreover, it has received approval from both the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) and the U.S. FDA.
3. Customizable treatment with localized injections
Juvelook can be used not only for overall injection but also for localized injections. This allows us to address not just the entire face but also specific concerns. For example, we can target the following areas:
- Acne scars and indented scars
- Under-eye fine lines and sagging
- Nose pores
4. Abundant medical data
Juvelook is widely used in Korea, and there are many research papers on its effectiveness and safety.
Recommended for those who:
- Are not satisfied with the results of laser treatments
- Are concerned about acne scars and uneven skin texture
- Are worried about fine lines under the eyes
- Want to improve skin firmness and elasticity
- Want to reduce enlarged pores
- Want to improve overall skin quality
- Are concerned about neck wrinkles
Effects
The dual action of Poly-DL-lactic acid (PDLLA) and non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid improves skin quality from within, leading to skin with better firmness and radiance.
- Skin quality improvement
- Enhanced firmness and radiance
- Fine line reduction
- Pore minimization
- Scar improvement
- Acne scar (pigmentation and craters) improvement
PDLLA continuously produces collagen for 1-2 years, so long-term effects can be expected.
When PDLLA is injected into the deep dermis of the skin, it gradually breaks down into water and CO2 over about 1-2 years. During this time, it stimulates dermal fibroblasts, activating the production of collagen and elastin.
Similarly, non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid also activates the production of collagen and elastin by stimulating fibroblasts within the dermis.
Treatment areas
There are two main treatment areas:
1. Full face
Full face injections cover a wide area including the entire face, forehead, and cheeks. This treatment can be expected to improve pores and overall skin quality.
2. Localized areas
We can target specific areas such as frown lines, fine lines around the eyes, and acne scars. This is recommended for those who have particular areas of concern.
Treatment methods
There are mainly three types of Juvelook injection methods:
- Doctor’s manual injection
- Rejuvenating injection (machine-assisted)
- Potenza
1. Doctor’s manual injection
The doctor administers the injection while checking the skin condition, adjusting the depth and dosage appropriately for each area. This method uses a syringe for injection.
2. Rejuvenating injection (machine-assisted)
While “rejuvenating injection” is sometimes used to refer to the drug or preparation, it’s more commonly used to describe the “machine” used for the treatment.
The drug is set in the rejuvenating injection machine, and the injection depth and dosage per injection are set on the machine. This allows for consistent depth and dosage throughout the treatment. For rejuvenating injections, a nurse typically performs the procedure.
3. Potenza
Potenza is a type of treatment machine called microneedle RF. It’s sometimes referred to as an advanced version of the derma pen.
After inserting ultra-fine needles, RF (radio frequency) waves are emitted from the needle tips. This creates tiny holes in the skin, into which the preparation (Juvelook) is introduced using a system called “drug delivery system”.
Who cannot receive the treatment
・Pregnant or breastfeeding women
・Those with abnormal immune function or a history thereof, and those undergoing immunosuppressive therapy
・Those prone to keloid formation, hypertrophic scars, or pigmentation disorders
・Those with bleeding tendencies or those using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or anticoagulants such as warfarin
・Those with excessive sunburn, eczema, dermatitis, severe inflammatory acne, or scabs at the Juvelook injection site
Risks and side effects
At the needle insertion sites:
・Redness, swelling, pain, edema
・Bruising
・Temporary bumps
Downtime
Redness and swelling may occur at the injection sites, but in most cases, these return to normal within about 24 hours.
Due to the nature of the treatment, although not guaranteed, there is a possibility of subcutaneous bruising at the needle insertion sites. If bruising occurs, it will gradually fade over 10-14 days.

【Reference】 How to choose the injection volume (cc)
- At our clinic, we also offer a “3cc” option to make it easier for you to compare with other clinics’ offerings
- However, for full face treatments, 3cc may not provide sufficient “density” for the procedure. For those seeking maximum effects, we recommend considering the following guidelines:
- 【Pattern 1】If you’re okay with lighter treatment for the forehead and areas below the nose → 3cc
- 【Pattern 2】If you want thorough treatment above the nose but are okay with slightly lighter treatment below the nose → 4cc
- 【Pattern 3】If you want thorough treatment for the entire face, including areas below the nose → 6cc
- If you’re unsure, our doctor will assess your needs on the day of treatment and recommend the optimal volume (rest assured, we never engage in unnecessary upselling)

Frequently Asked Questions
- When will I see results?
- スマスキ医師
Most people start to notice effects after 2-3 weeks.
While you can see results from a single treatment, the changes become more noticeable after completing a 3-session set.
For optimal results, we recommend the following approach:
・Undergo a 3-session set at 1-month intervals, followed by maintenance treatments every 6 months to 1 year
※Due to Juvelook’s continuous collagen production, the effects last for an extended period. - Is it safe?
- スマスキ医師
Juvelook has been approved by both the U.S. FDA and Korean KFDA, indicating a high level of safety.
- How does it differ from hyaluronic acid treatments?
- スマスキ医師
Hyaluronic acid treatments involve injecting cross-linked hyaluronic acid, which is firmer. This physically adds volume to improve wrinkles and other concerns. On the other hand, Juvelook works by increasing your body’s own collagen production, resulting in a natural volume increase.
