What is Sunekos Performa? [The evolved Sunekos]

SuneCos Spa Forma is an advanced version of SuneCos, which is extremely popular as an injectable treatment for the eye area. It is a new formulation developed by the company that manufactures SuneCos to serve as its successor.

Unlike conventional hyaluronic acid injections, SuneCos Spa Forma is gaining attention as a ”skin-nurturing injection” that activates the skin’s natural regenerative functions to promote rejuvenation through a more natural process.

Its formula consists of a special blend of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid and six types of amino acids in a specific ratio.

Key features:

  • Promotes the regeneration and functional improvement of the extracellular matrix (ECM)
  • Rebuilds the structure of the dermis and encourages the skin itself to regenerate
  • Highly effective in improving firmness, elasticity, and radiance
  • Particularly effective for rejuvenating the eye area

Differences from conventional Sunekos

SuneCos Spa Forma is a further evolution of the original SuneCos. The main differences are as follows:

Increased ingredient amounts

  • Amino acid content: increased by 28%, from 100 mg to 128 mg
  • Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid: increased from 30 mg to 35 mg

Enhanced effects

  • Reduces the hyaluronic acid degradation reaction by 40%
  • Further boosts the production of collagen and elastin

Improved longevity

  • Thanks to the increased ingredient amounts and reduced degradation reaction, the effects last longer.

Through these improvements, Sunekos Performa is more effective than Sunekos and offers longer-lasting results.

Features of Sunekos Performa

Sunekos Performa is an injectable developed by Professional Dietetics, an Italian research and development company specializing in medical amino acid formulations. Its main features are as follows:

A true evolution of the enormously popular Sunekos formulation

This is an upgraded version of SuneCos, which was extremely popular for treating bear-related issues. It is a formulation that offers an all-around improvement over SuneCos.

A patented combination of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and six types of amino acids

In Sunekos Performa, non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and six amino acids (glycine, L-proline, L-lysine, L-alanine, L-valine, and L-leucine) areblended in a special, internationally patented ratio. This blend ratio has been shown to optimally promote the production of collagen and elastin.

The mechanism of extracellular matrix (ECM) regeneration

Sunekos Performa promotes the regeneration and functional improvement of the extracellular matrix (ECM), which is composed of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and other components that form the foundation of healthy, beautiful skin. This rebuilds the very structure of the dermis and is highly effective in helping the skin itself regenerate and in improving firmness, elasticity, and radiance.

High safety

Sunekos Performa isIt has obtained "CE Class III," an approval confirming conformity with European safety standards, and is approved as a medical device within the EU. In addition, because it contains no cross-linking agents or chemical substances, it is characterized by an extremely low risk of allergies and similar reactions.

Why Sunekos Performa is effective for eye-area concerns

The causes of eye-area concerns vary, but the main factors are age-related decreases in collagen and elastin, along with thin, dry skin. Sunekos Performa contains ingredients that address these causes directly.

Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid has a high water-retention capacity and penetrates deep into the dermal layer, giving the skin firmness and hydration. In addition, six amino acids (glycine, L-proline, L-lysine, L-alanine, L-valine, and L-leucine) help promote the production of collagen and elastin and improve skin elasticity.

Sunekos Performa combines these ingredients in an optimal blend ratio and holds both an international patent and a Japanese domestic patent. Furthermore, having obtained CE Mark Class III, its high safety has been confirmed.

Sunekos Performa's effects on the eye area

Improvement of dark circles under the eyes

Dark circles under the eyes are caused by factors such as thin skin, visible blood vessels showing through, and pigmentation.

There are bluish dark circles and shadow-type dark circles, and Sunekos Performa is effective for both.

Bluish dark circles are a condition in which thin skin allows the underlying venous blood and the blue-black tone of the muscle to show through. Sunekos Performa reduces this see-through appearance by rebuilding the dermis and adding thickness to the skin. Shadow-type dark circles, on the other hand, occur when the skin loses firmness with age and sags, creating shadows. As firmness is restored with Sunekos Performa, these shadows are also reduced.

In a clinical trial, four injections of Sunekos Performa reportedly improved dark circles under the eyes by an average of 60% (source: Beatrice Molinu et al. J Clin Exp Dermatol Res. 2019).

Improvement of fine lines around the eyes

Because the eye area has a high concentration of facial muscles, it is prone to developing fine lines. Sunekos Performa helps improve fine lines around the eyes by promoting the production of collagen and elastin. Unlike Botox, it does not stop the movement of facial expressions; instead, it naturally adds firmness to the skin itself, making fine lines less noticeable.

A clinical trial in Italy reported that four injections of Sunekos Performa improved fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes by an average of 32% (source: Beatrice Molinu et al. J Clin Exp Dermatol Res. 2019).

Improvement of sagging around the eyes

With age, the skin around the eyes becomes more prone to sagging. Sunekos Performa helps improve sagging around the eyes by adding volume to the dermal layer and enhancing firmness and elasticity.

A study conducted in Korea showed that four injections of Sunekos Performa improved sagging around the eyes by an average of 25% (source: Sung-Min Kim et al. Archives of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. 2021).

Other effects of Sunekos Performa (secondary effects)

In addition to eye-area concerns, Sunekos Performa may offer the following effects.

Improvement of overall facial skin quality (enhanced radiance, texture, and firmness)

Injected across the entire face, it helps improve dullness and enlarged pores, refining the skin to a taut, bouncy texture. The skin gradually transforms into an overall plump, firm-looking complexion.

Improvement of the fine "curtain" lines around the mouth

The wrinkles that form like a curtain at the outer corners of the mouth can also be made less noticeable by injecting Sunekos Performa in a sheet-like pattern into the shallow layers to add firmness.

Improving firmness and fine lines on the neck

When injected finely along the wrinkles of the neck, it promotes the production of collagen and elastin, increasing the firmness and thickness of the skin so that wrinkles gradually become less noticeable.

Improving firmness on the back of the hands

By injecting evenly across the entire back of the hand, firmness is increased, fine surface wrinkles become less noticeable, and the texture is refined to a smooth, sleek finish.

Sunekos Performa offers a variety of effects, butit is most effective around the eyes,so we suggest first considering treatment for the eye area.

Which layer is it injected into?

Cross-sectional view showing skin layer structure and location of injection into shallow dermis

Injectable formulations vary in both their ingredients and intended purposes.
Therefore, it is extremely important to administer each formulation at the appropriate “depth” and “volume” to ensure optimal results.

In the case of Sunekos Performa, the main injection layer is the "superficial dermis."

The skin has a layered structure—from the surface: the epidermis, the dermis (superficial, middle, and deep layers), the subcutaneous fat layer, and the muscle layer—each playing a different role. The superficial dermis lies just beneath the epidermis and is the layer responsible for the skin's "visible texture," such as smoothness, firmness, and moisture.

The superficial dermis is the layer where the ingredients and intended purpose of Sunekos Performa can be most effectively drawn out, and this is the medical rationale behind injecting this formulation into that layer at our clinic.

Recommended number/frequency of treatments | How many times should I have it?

This is a question we're often asked during actual counseling, so we'll explain it just as we would tell you at the clinic.

"How many times is it best to receive Sunekos Performa?"

A set of 4 sessionsIt is recommended to receive it at

"What is the ideal interval between sessions?"

intervals of two weeks (or longer).is what we recommend.

*The reason we don't speak in absolutes is that with cosmetic dermatology treatments, results vary from person to person, so we're neutrally conveying the methods generally recommended in cosmetic dermatology and by manufacturers. While we don't make guarantees, we generally recommend receiving treatment at the number of sessions and frequency described above.

How to space out other treatments

Many people have had other cosmetic treatments beforehand or wish to have them in the future, so we often receive questions like this during counseling.

We will explain this so that reading it resolves your questions.

"I'm also having laser treatment—how long should I space it out?"

As long as a laser is not being applied under the eyes (the area of the Sunekos Performa injection), there is no need to space the sessions apart.

If the laser is or will be applied under the eyes, we recommend leaving an interval of at least 2 weeks, and preferably about 1 month.

This basic guidance applies not only to lasers but to other treatments as well.

"Can I have other treatments on the same day?"

Yes, this is possible.

Because Sunekos Performa injections treat only a single area, under the eyes, other treatments can be performed on the same day.

For example, a Profhilo injection can be performed on the same day.

Risks and Side Effects・Downtime

Risks, side effects, and downtime may mean roughly the same thing to you, so we will explain them together.

With Sunekos Performa injections, Sunekos Performa is injected under the eyes with needle insertions at dozens of sites or more on each side. As a result, reactions such as the following may occur.

Redness, swelling (puffiness), and pain may occur at the injection site.

The reactions described above usually subside within 24 hours.

Another point I always make sure to mention is the possibility of “bruising”. Since there are sometimes misunderstandings about this, I’d like to explain it carefully.

First, please take a look at the following.

Due to the nature of the treatment, bruising may—though not always—occur at the needle puncture site. If bruising does occur, it gradually fades over the course of one to two weeks.

As noted here, bruising occurs at a certain frequency (about 3–10%).

Bruising happens when the needle strikes a "blood vessel (a vein)" beneath the skin, causing a small tear so that blood leaks out and clots.

In other words, to prevent it, "it's best not to hit a blood vessel." However, these blood vessels (veins) are very thin, and their course (where they run) differs from person to person. For this reason, it cannot be prevented 100% by the physician's skill alone.

At Smart Skin Clinic, we are "committed" to using ultra-fine needles and make every effort to reduce the risk of bruising as much as possible. We appreciate your understanding of this when you visit us.

The course of downtime is explained in more detail in the article below. If you would like to know more, please also see the following article.

Aftercare|advice for daily life after treatment

First we will summarize the "what not to do" items, and then explain the reasons in detail.

So, let us first summarize "what not to do" after the treatment.

[What not to do within 24 hours]
・Strenuous exercise
・Sauna
・Bathing in hot water
・Excessive alcohol consumption
・Use of retinol or hydroquinone cream

[What is best avoided within 24 hours]
・Exercise
・Bathing
・Drinking alcohol
At the injection siteMakeup *Makeup is fine everywhere except under the eyes. *It is OK from 24 hours later (the next day is also acceptable).

[What you may do within 24 hours]
・Washing your face|Please do so gently to avoid friction.
・Skincare|Please use low-irritation cosmetics and focus mainly on moisturizing.

[What is best avoided within 1 week]
・Massaging around the treated area
・Use of retinol or hydroquinone cream

Next, we will briefly explain "why you should not do these things."

The areas injected with Sunekos Performa may have slight"state of inflammation."This is the case.

Inflammation, put simply,"is a state in which the body is working hard to return to its original condition."That's how we can describe it. Since the body is working hard to improve the injection site, it is best to leave it alone.

What the "things not to do within 24 hours" have in common is "excessively increasing blood flow or applying heat." These can promote inflammation, which may result in a condition called "post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation" or slow the healing process.

In short,"To avoid promoting inflammation, don't irritate the area and let it heal naturally."That is what we mean.
