What is Profhilo?

Profhilo Product Images

Its official product name is "Profhilo®." On the market since 2015, it is a hyaluronic acid product from the Italian company IBSA.

To explain it in technical terms,

it is a hybrid complex of low- and high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (hybrid hyaluronic acid), combining two types of hyaluronic acid — high- and low-molecular-weight — through NAHYCO Hybrid Technology.

The conventional hyaluronic acid that most people are familiar with"cross-linked"hyaluronic acid.Profhilo is a "non-cross-linked" hyaluronic acid. That is the key distinction.

The major difference between cross-linked and non-cross-linked lies in whether it spreads. Profhilo, a non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, spreads out from the injection site to deliver its effects over a wide area.

Conventional hyaluronic acid

With conventional hyaluronic acid injections, bone and fat volume lost with age was "filled in" with hyaluronic acid to refine facial contours and improve wrinkles and nasolabial folds.

It targets specific areas such as the under-eyes, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines; the injected hyaluronic acid stays within the treatment area, filling in lost fat and lifting ligaments.

Recommended if you have any of these concerns

  • Sagging under the eyes
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Hollows under the eyes
  • Fine lines at the corners of the eyes
  • Gaunt or sagging cheeks
  • Wanting to improve neck wrinkles
  • Prominent tendons and wrinkles on the backs of the hands
  • Wanting fast-acting results from skin treatment

Effects and how they work

In a nutshell,it "rebuilds the skin's cells.".

As a result, you can gain the following three main effects.

  1. Improvement of wrinkles
  2. Improvement of firmness and elasticity (enhanced, dewy skin)
  3. Lifting effect

To give a more technical explanation,
hyaluronic acid comes in low- and high-molecular-weight forms. (Different molecular weights have different biological actions.) The "NAHYCO Hybrid Technology" used in Profhilo makes it possible to loosely bond low- and high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. In the dermal layer of the skin, this combined complex of low- plus high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (hybrid hyaluronic acid)stimulates fibroblasts to produce extracellular matrix. At the same time, it also increases fat cells in the subcutaneous tissue.

Through these actions, it can improve wrinkles and sagging and plump up the skin.

What is the extracellular matrix?

The extracellular matrix is the collective term for the substances surrounding cells in the body. In the dermis, the extracellular matrix refers to collagen, elastin, and ground substance (such as hyaluronic acid). This dermal extracellular matrix is responsible for maintaining skin elasticity and retaining moisture.

With age, the extracellular matrix degenerates and deteriorates. This degeneration causes the skin to lose elasticity, become thinner, and lose moisture. As a result, the skin loses firmness and shows signs such as sagging and fine lines.

efficacy

Profhilo contains no chemicals or biological agents whatsoever.

Therefore,it is less likely to cause allergic reactions and the like. This is one of its characteristics.

Also,The efficacy of Profhilo has also been noted in several published papers.

Based on three years of post-market experience, the efficacy profile of the medical device in this study is favorable

FAQ

How often and how many times should I receive it?
Dr. Ishii

A single session may be effective, but as more effective approaches we recommend one of the following.
① Have the first and second sessions one month apart, then continue the same pattern once a year thereafter.
② Have the first and second sessions one month apart, then continue every six months thereafter.

*Through Profhilo's skin-remodeling effect, the extracellular matrix increases and skin recovery is encouraged. Without maintenance, once treatment reaches its peak, the extracellular matrix gradually declines "with aging." For this reason, we recommend the approach above.

Does it hurt?
Dr. Ishii

It varies from person to person. We use a fine needle, but you may feel a slight pricking sensation. The center of the face is also said to be more sensitive to pain.

How long is the downtime?
Dr. Ishii

Redness often subsides within about 24 hours.
