What is a Jalupro injection?

An injectable preparation used in skin-nurturing treatments, designed to "rejuvenate the skin from within" and help "the skin itself regain firmness and elasticity."
Jalupro is an injectable preparation made mainly of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and amino acids. Depending on the molecular size of its main ingredient, non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, there are three types with different compositions: "Jalupro Classic," "Jalupro HMW," and "Jalupro Super Hydro."

Three types of Jalupro|Classic, HMW, and Super Hydro
Jalupro's "Classic," "HMW," and "Super Hydro" each offer different expected effects, and the appropriate preparation is chosen according to your concern.
- Jalupro Classic|For improving fine lines and dark circles around the eyes and moisturizing the whole complexion
- Jalupro HMW|For neck wrinkles and nasolabial folds, and to plump up hollow cheeks
- Jalupro Super Hydro (also known as the "Tightening Injection")|For skin rejuvenation, improving sagging, and tightening
We've briefly summarized the three preparations in a table.
Classic![]() | HMW![]() | Superhydro![]() | |
| Concern Expected effects | dark circles under the eyes (Blue and black dark circles) wrinkles at the corners of the eyes Crepe-like fine lines Dry skin I want firmness and radiance I want to improve naturally | I want to plump up the hollow areas of my cheeks I want firmness and radiance in my cheeks Neck wrinkles and nasolabial folds I want to lift and firm | Sagging prevention Sagging of the face and cheeks I want to lift and firm Neck wrinkles and nasolabial folds Skin tightening Dry skin |
| Non-cross-linked Hyaluronic acid | Low molecular weight | High molecular weight | Low and high molecular weight |
| Amino acids | 4 types Glycine L-proline L-leucine L-lysine | 4 types Glycine L-proline L-leucine L-lysine | 7 types Glycine L-proline L-leucine L-lysine Alanine Valine Arginine |
| Peptides | — | — | 3 types Acetyl decapeptide-3 Oligopeptide-24 Acetyl tetrapeptide5 |
The detailed characteristics of each of the three types are explained in the article below.
The table shows the ingredients of each preparation and the kinds of concerns each is good for. But for those who aren't sure what the main ingredient—non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid—actually is, we'd like to give a brief explanation of it.
What is non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid?
Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid refers to hyaluronic acid that is not cross-linked.
"Cross-linking" means binding hyaluronic acid molecules together so they do not come apart, so non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid is hyaluronic acid that spreads freely within the body.
When non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin, it diffuses and penetrates widely, so the hyaluronic acid reaches every corner of the skin. Because hyaluronic acid has "a strong moisturizing effect that attracts and retains water" and "the property of activating surrounding cells," the hyaluronic acid that spreads throughout the skin increases the skin's moisture and activates cells (fibroblasts), boosting firmness and elasticity.
Incidentally, promoting increased skin firmness and elasticity by activating fibroblasts—the cells that generate the various cells of the skin tissue—is called ECM remodeling treatment.
The effects of Jalupro injections
The effects of Jalupro, used in skin-nurturing treatments, arise from the synergy between the ECM remodeling effect of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and the skin repair and regeneration effects of the amino acids formulated alongside it.
Jalupro's formulations differ according to the molecular weight of the non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, so here is a brief explanation of the characteristics associated with different molecular weights of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid.
[Low-molecular-weight non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid]
Because of its small molecular weight, it diffuses widely and deeply through the gaps between cells. It can deliver the benefits of hyaluronic acid to every corner of the skin, so the entire complexion is moisturized
[High-molecular-weight non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid]
Because of its large molecular weight, it has properties such as being harder to diffuse, harder to break down, and more likely to stay at the injection site. Furthermore, the hyaluronic acid itself binds with the water it attracts and swells into a gel-like state, which adds volume to the injected area
Characteristics of Jalupro|Skin repair and regeneration effects from amino acids
Jalupro's amino acids include glycine, L-proline, L-leucine, and L-lysine, which are essential for generating and regenerating cells and repairing damaged skin. Glycine in particular is an important amino acid from the standpoint of collagen production.
In other words, Jalupro activates fibroblasts through non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid while at the same time delivering into the skin the amino acids essential for cell generation and repair, so a synergistic skin-rejuvenation effect can be expected.
When do the effects begin to appear?|"When will I feel the effects? Is a single session effective?"
Although there are three types of Jalupro, they tend to share a common pattern in when their effects appear.
However, since the way effects appear varies from person to person, please treat the following timeframes as a rough guide.
The effects of Jalupro begin to appear within a few days after injection. These effects feel like "my skin has more firmness and radiance" or "somehow my skin is in good condition."
Clear, tangible effects such as "wrinkles becoming less noticeable" or "sagging improving" are said to appear about one month after injection.
Effects can be felt even from a single treatment, but to maintain the results, regular treatments are necessary.
Duration of effect
The duration of the effect depends on the skin's response, the amount injected, and the patient's lifestyle and daily skincare, so it varies from person to person.
Below are reference durations for each preparation.
Jalupro Classic|about 6 to 9 months
Jalupro HMW|about 6 to 12 months
Jalupro Super Hydro|about 6 months
Skin-nurturing injectable preparations often compared with Jalupro
Among skin-nurturing injectable preparations, Profhilo and Sunekos are often compared with Jalupro.
What is the difference between Jalupro and Profhilo?
Profhilo is an injectable preparation containing a high concentration of two types of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid—high and low molecular weight—making it similar to Jalupro Super Hydro.
The difference between the two preparations is the presence or absence of ingredients other than non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid: Profhilo consists solely of pure hyaluronic acid.
Both preparations share the ability to act on the dermal layer and renew skin tissue through the ECM remodeling effect. However, the two preparations differ fundamentally in their approach to achieving skin nurturing.
Profhilo is designed to also work on the subcutaneous tissue, while Jalupro Super Hydro is designed to also work on the ligaments, so there is a difference in the effects you can expect.
[Profhilo]
It also acts on the subcutaneous tissue, which lies deeper than the dermal layer, aiming to add volume from the subcutaneous tissue. It is effective at naturally adding volume to the skin of the subcutaneous tissue in the face and neck.
[Jalupro Super Hydro]
It also aims to regenerate the fibrous tissue called ligaments. Ligaments are fibers that connect bone and skin; as they break or stretch with age, they cause the skin to sag. As the ligaments are regenerated, sagging skin is lifted, so it may be expected to help tighten the skin of the mid-face (care for sagging).
What is the difference between Jalupro and Sunekos?
There are two types of Sunekos—Sunekos 200 and Sunekos 1200—and Sunekos 200 is often compared with Jalupro Classic.
In conclusion, it is best to understand these two as similar preparations.
Sunekos 200 is a preparation combining low-molecular-weight non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and six amino acids (glycine, L-proline, L-lysine, L-alanine, L-valine, and L-leucine) in a patented ratio.
Both preparations have similar ingredients and share many of the same claimed benefits, such as "improving firmness and elasticity and reducing fine lines."
There is no clear data showing that one is superior to the other. Since effects vary from person to person, choose whichever suits you best.

Downtime and risks of Jalupro
Downtime for Jalupro
Downtime symptoms
・Pain or tenderness at the injection site
・Redness, swelling, and itching at the injection site
Bruising
Internal bleeding refers to what is commonly called a "bruise." The medical mechanism is that blood vessels within the skin tear and blood leaks out, then clots within the skin.
Whether bruising occurs depends on the physician's skill and the physical characteristics of the person receiving the treatment, so it is expected to occur in a few percent of cases. (Preventing bruising 100% is difficult to control by skill alone.)
Downtime symptoms mostly disappear within a day or two (basically within 48 hours)
If bruising occurs, it gradually fades over one to two weeks.
"I wonder if this treatment will get in the way of my work..."
"I wonder how many days I'll need to conceal it after this treatment..."
"I wonder how much it will affect my daily life..."
Do you have concerns or questions like these about downtime?
Our aesthetic dermatology team will explain these points so that your questions are answered without your having to ask the doctor directly at the clinic.
To get straight to the point, the unevenness after injection settles down about 3 hours after the treatment.
Depending on the area, bruising may occur and needle marks may be noticeable, but in most cases they can be adequately concealed with concealer or the like.
You cannot wear makeup right after the treatment, so if it really bothers you, you may need to cover it with a mask or hat, but makeup can be worn from the next day.
Areas prone to bruising are around the eyes and the temples, and the area where needle marks tend to be most visible is the cheeks. However, since the treatment is performed with an ultra-fine needle to begin with, even if bruising occurs, it does not spread darkly over a wide area.
In most cases it can be concealed with makeup, but if you are concerned, it may put your mind at ease to schedule things so that you don't have plans the day after the treatment.
Risks of Jalupro
Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acids such as Jalupro are generally considered safe.
The reasons are:
- No cross-linking agents are used... avoiding allergic reactions, immune reactions, and inflammation caused by cross-linking agents
- Properties similar to the hyaluronic acid naturally present in the body... low risk of thromboembolism
Furthermore, the three Jalupro preparations are certified as Class 3 medical devices under the CE Mark, which also indicates a high level of safety. They have been marketed and used in many countries. (The CE Mark is an indicator for evaluating the safety of medical devices in the EU, and Class 3 indicates the highest level.)
Drawbacks
Jalupro has no major disadvantages worth noting. The minor disadvantages are as follows.
- The effects are not permanent, so repeated treatments are needed to maintain results.
- It is not fast-acting before the effect can be felt (to put it another way, the result comes on slowly and looks natural).
- Results vary from person to person
- Temporary redness and swelling may occur after injection. These usually resolve within a few days but may affect appearance right after the treatment.
- Some preparations are more expensive than others.

For those concerned about sagging, laser-based or surgical procedures (HIFU, thread lift)
Laser-based and surgical procedures are effective at improving sagging. They take a different approach from Jalupro Super Hydro, aiming to tighten and lift the skin.
With surgical procedures as well, results vary from person to person. And to maintain the sagging-improvement effect, these treatments too need to be continued.
*We do not offer HIFU at our clinic.
Frequently asked questions about Jalupro
Q: How long does the treatment take?
A:Excluding counseling, the treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
Q: Can it be done under the eyes?
A:Jalupro Classic can be injected around the eyes, while HMW and Super Hydro are injected according to their recommended injection points. Even if it cannot be injected directly under the eyes, the drug diffuses and penetrates, so the effect can still be felt.
Q: Can I wear makeup after the treatment?
A:Makeup can be worn right after the treatment.
Q: How long does it take for the unevenness (bumps) at the injection site to disappear?
A:After the Classic treatment, uneven bumps appear at the treated area. If a large area is treated, the unevenness may be noticeable right after the injection, but it penetrates deeper and becomes less noticeable within a few hours.
The rate of penetration varies from person to person depending on constitution and metabolism, but if the treatment is done in the morning, the bumps are often no longer noticeable by evening, and they are said to be absorbed within 24 hours.
Q: How often should I have Jalupro injections? Maintenance after the second session
A:The interval between treatments differs between Classic/HMW and Super Hydro.
[Classic / HMW]
From the second session onward, after a total of 4 treatments once every 1 to 2 weeks, maintenance is performed about once every 6 to 9 months.
[Super Hydro]
From the second session onward, after a total of 3 treatments once a month, maintenance is performed about once every 6 months.
Q: Which Jalupro is best if I want treatment on my neck?
A:The recommended preparation differs depending on your reason (concern) for wanting neck treatment.
For existing wrinkles, HMW or Super Hydro is recommended; for small, crepe-like fine lines or for preventive purposes, Classic is said to be effective.
Q: Is there pain during injection? Can I have anesthesia?
A:It varies from person to person, but there may be some pain when the needle is inserted and when the drug is injected.
However, our clinic takes steps to minimize pain, such as using a thinner needle than usual for injections. If you consult with us in advance, we can also use anesthesia to reduce the pain.
Q: Can Jalupro be done as a Water Light Injection?
A:Jalupro Classic can be performed as a Water Light Injection.
