What Is SkinVibe (Volite XC)?
SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM® is a hyaluronic acid formulation designed to improve the skin's ability to retain moisture. It was developed by Allergan, a U.S.-based manufacturer of aesthetic medical products (now Allergan Aesthetics, a subsidiary of AbbVie), and has been approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. It has also received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM®.
Previously, this product was known in Japan as “Juvederm Vista® Volite XC,” but the name was changed to “SkinVibe” in 2025. There have been no changes to the formulation. Note that the product was originally known as “SkinVibe” overseas.
SkinVibe has been officially approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Specifically, this means the following:

In a study comparing 131 participants in the VYC-12L (SkinVibe) treatment group with 71 participants in the untreated control group, one month after treatment, the percentage of participants showing an improvement of at least one grade in both cheek smoothness and fine lines was 57.91 TP3T and 58.31 TP3T, respectively—statistically significantly higher than those in the untreated control group (4.51 TP3T and 5.41 TP3T).
Furthermore, in a study involving 131 participants, the response rate for the cheek roughness improvement index was 96.21 TP3T one month after administration, 76.31 TP3T four months later, 34.91 TP3T six months later, and recovered to 87.11 TP3T after retreatment. Overall, it has been reported that skin smoothness persisted for up to 6 months, and improvements in moisture levels lasted for 9 months.

The Process from Treatment to Noticing Results
SkinVibe is not the type of treatment that produces dramatic results immediately after injection. This is because the injected cross-linked hyaluronic acid gradually absorbs moisture from the skin, and it takes a little time for it to begin affecting the surrounding area.
After about two weeks, many people begin to notice that their skin feels smoother.
About one month after the procedure, your skin's moisture levels will peak, and you'll likely notice a fresh, firm, and radiant complexion.
What happens if I quit?
Just because you stop the treatment partway through doesn't mean your skin condition will get worse than it was before treatment.
If you stop using SkinVibe, the effects will fade over time, and your skin will return to its pre-injection state. While your condition generally won’t deteriorate rapidly, you may feel as though it has worsened because the improvements in hydration and the reduction in fine lines will fade.

Pain is relieved with lidocaine and anesthesia
The pain associated with injection therapy consists of the pain felt when the needle is inserted and the pain felt as the medication is injected.
At our clinic, to minimize pain, we apply a topical anesthetic (anesthetic cream) before the injection and use local anesthesia. In addition, we use ultra-fine needles, so the procedure is relatively gentle.
Furthermore, since the SkinVibe formulation itself contains "lidocaine," an anesthetic ingredient that alleviates pain, the discomfort felt when the medication is injected after the needle is inserted is also significantly reduced.
Although individual experiences may vary, measures have been taken to minimize discomfort through the use of anesthesia and ultra-fine needles.

Downtime, Side Effects, and Risks
Common Symptoms of Down Syndrome
- Redness: may last for about 24 hours immediately after the procedure.
- Swelling: mild swelling may last about 1–3 days.
- Pain: mild pain or discomfort may last for several days.
- Bruising: on rare occasions, small bruises may appear, but they disappear within 1–2 weeks.
- Temporary Discomfort: Immediately after the injection, you may feel a slight tightness in your skin. This usually subsides within a few days, and your skin will return to feeling normal.
For most people, symptoms subside on the day of the procedure or the following day; however, if bruising occurs, it may take about 1 to 2 weeks to disappear. All of these symptoms will improve over time.
Side Effects and Risks of SkinVibe (Bolite XC)
SkinVibe carries the following risks of adverse events and side effects.
- Serious Adverse Events (Rare): May cause transient or irreversible blindness resulting from intravascular injection or tissue compression, or may induce a stroke (cerebral ischemia, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction).
- Other Adverse Events: Small nodules, bead-like elevations, granulomas, allergic reactions/hypersensitivity, herpes, necrosis (caused by vascular embolism, vascular compression, etc.), pain, infection, angioedema, discoloration or pigmentation, hematoma or petechiae, itching, inflammatory reactions, redness or rash, swelling or edema, etc.
- Side effects associated with lidocaine (frequency unknown): Serious side effects include shock, impaired consciousness, tremors, convulsions, and malignant hyperthermia. Other side effects include drowsiness, anxiety, agitation, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and skin symptoms such as hives.
The risk of infection can be minimized through proper disinfection and hygiene practices.
Since cross-linked hyaluronic acid breaks down more slowly in the body, it is important to keep in mind that it carries a slightly higher risk of allergic reactions and foreign body reactions compared to non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid. We will carefully explain these risks during the pre-treatment consultation.
In rare cases, if the injection is not administered evenly, the final results may appear uneven. This risk is significantly reduced when the procedure is performed by a physician with extensive experience in injections.
Those who are not eligible for the treatment
