What is Juvelook Shine?
Juvelook Shine is a next-generation injectable formulation (skin booster) developed in South Korea.
[Ingredients of Juvelook Shine and How They Work]
- Poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA): promotes collagen and elastin production and strengthens the basement membrane
- Non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid: has a high water-holding capacity and instantly boosts the skin's hydration
Main Features of Juvelook Shine
- Comprehensive effects through reinforcement of the basement membrane
- Immediate hydration and safety of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid
- Safety of nano-sized PDLLA particles
[1. Comprehensive Effects Through Basement Membrane Reinforcement]
By strengthening the basement membrane that separates the epidermis and dermis, it helps normalize skin turnover and promotes the elimination of melanin. This can be expected to improve pigmentation and produce a brightening effect.
The "basement membrane" on which Juvelook Shine acts is a thin membrane, just 0.1 micrometers thick, that anchors the surface of the skin (epidermis) to the deeper layer (dermis).
This membrane acts like a "filter to the deeper skin." When the basement membrane is damaged, cells may no longer be produced normally, and it can also lead to a reduction of collagen in the dermis.
Furthermore, when the basement membrane breaks, melanin drops into the dermis, where it is not eliminated by normal turnover and remains as stubborn dark spots and dullness.
The following study reports that a PDLLA formulation (the main ingredient in Juvelook Shine) reduces UV-induced pigmentation by regenerating the basement membrane.
[2. Immediate Hydration and Safety of Non-Crosslinked Hyaluronic Acid]
Non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid gives the skin fresh, dewy hydration immediately after injection. Compared with crosslinked hyaluronic acid, it has lower viscosity and is characterized by a relatively lower risk of vascular occlusion, lumps, and allergies.
[3. Safety of Nano-Sized PDLLA Particles]
PDLLA is a highly biocompatible material that has long been used as surgical suture thread. In addition, the PDLLA particles in Juvelook Shine are designed to be nano-sized, smaller than in conventional formulations. This improves penetration into the skin and helps reduce the risk of lumps. The particles are broken down within the body over about 2 to 3 weeks.
Many research papers have been published on the efficacy and safety of PDLLA, and these are also introduced in the following article.
The Effects of Juvelook Shine
Improvement of pigmentation, redness, fine lines, and mild acne scars; enhanced firmness and elasticity
Improvement of pigmentation and redness
By repairing the basement membrane damaged by UV rays, friction, inflammation such as acne, and the like, it helps normalize skin turnover.
When the basement membrane is in good condition, melanin that has accumulated in the epidermis is eliminated more smoothly, making dark spots and pigmentation easier to improve. In addition, by strengthening the skin's barrier function, it helps resolve chronic redness and dullness, leading to brighter, more translucent skin.
Improvement of fine lines under the eyes
Conventional hyaluronic acid injections use a jelly-like formulation to physically "fill" depressions, which carried risks such as unnatural bulging depending on the amount injected, or the "Tyndall effect," in which the product shows through as a bluish-white tint.
Juvelook Shine, by contrast, is a smooth, liquid formulation that works by promoting your own collagen production to "thicken the skin itself." Because it nurtures your own skin rather than filling with a foreign material, there is no concern about over-plumping, and it can naturally make fine lines less noticeable.
Improvement of mild acne scars
PDLLA stimulates the fibroblasts in the superficial dermis, strongly promoting collagen production. This lifts shallow acne-scar depressions from within and smooths the surface of the skin.
Especially for acne scars accompanied by pigmentation, the synergy with the pigmentation-improving effect described above can help you aim for clearer skin.
Improved firmness and elasticity
The non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid contained in Juvelook Shine instantly boosts the skin's water-holding capacity.
In addition, as poly-lactic acid (PDLLA) is broken down within the body, it stimulates fibroblasts, thereby promoting the production of collagen and elastin.
Furthermore, by acting on the basement membrane to strengthen the bond between the epidermis and dermis and to curb declines in moisture retention and barrier function, it stabilizes the skin's foundation. This improves the overall structural strength of the skin, leading to plump, firm, youthful-looking skin.
The Differences Between Juvelook Shine, Juvelook, and Juvelook Volume (Lenisna)
In addition to "Juvelook Shine," the Juvelook series includes "Juvelook" and "Juvelook Volume (Lenisna)."
All of these are based primarily on PDLLA and non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid, but they differ in the particle size of the PDLLA and in their indications.
| Comparison point | Juvelook Shine | Juvelook | Juvelook Volume |
| Primary Purpose | Improvement of pigmentation and fine lines, improvement of skin texture | Depressed acne scars, enlarged pores | Natural volume enhancement, deep wrinkles |
| Injection depth | Basement membrane to superficial dermis | Deep dermis | Deep dermis to subcutaneous tissue |
| Features of the PDLLA | The finest, smoothest particles | Medium particle size | The largest particle size |
| Duration (Approximate) | About six months after one course | About 1 to 2 years after one course | About 1 to 2 years after one course |
To sum up simply, you can choose between them according to concerns such as the following.
- Juvelook Shine: for those who want to improve the overall texture of the skin, and who want to address fine lines under the eyes and firmness and radiance across the whole face
- Juvelook: for those who want to pinpoint crater-like acne scars and localized depressions
- Juvelook Volume (Lenisna): for those who want to plump up sunken cheeks, hollow temples, and deep nasolabial folds due to aging

Treatment Method
For Juvelook Shine, you can choose from three treatment methods: "Dermapen infusion," "Water Light Injection," and "manual injection by a physician."
Based on your skin condition and preferences, the physician will recommend the most suitable method during your consultation on the day.
Dermapen infusion
The Dermapen is an electric, auto-pen-type device with 16 ultra-fine needles at its tip. It creates microscopic channels on the skin's surface and, immediately afterward, applies the formulation so that it penetrates. This engages the skin's own wound-healing ability (the wound-healing mechanism), helping to improve texture, pores, and the unevenness of shallow acne scars.
Vital Injector
Water Light Injection is a treatment that directly injects the solution using a stamp-like device fitted with nine fine needles arranged in a row. Because it injects while suctioning the skin, unevenness is less likely, and depth, volume, and suction pressure can be finely adjusted—a key feature. It is well suited to those who want to treat the whole face evenly.
For more about Water Light Injection, please refer to the following article.
Manual injection by a physician
This method involves the physician using an ultra-fine needle to inject carefully and precisely. It is well suited to delicate areas that call for precise injection, such as under the eyes and neck wrinkles. Compared with the other methods, it takes more time and costs more, but it has the advantage of allowing detailed customization by area.
Which layer is it injected into?

Injectable formulations vary in both their ingredients and intended purposes.
Therefore, it is extremely important to administer each formulation at the appropriate “depth” and “volume” to ensure optimal results.
In the case of Juvelook Shine, the primary injection layer is the "superficial dermis."
The skin has a layered structure—from the surface: the epidermis, the dermis (superficial, middle, and deep layers), the subcutaneous fat layer, and the muscle layer—each playing a different role. The superficial dermis lies just beneath the epidermis and is the layer responsible for the skin's "visible texture," such as smoothness, firmness, and moisture.
The superficial dermis is where the ingredients and intended purpose of Juvelook Shine can be drawn out most fully, and this is the medical rationale behind our clinic's practice of injecting this formulation into that layer.

Need for Anesthesia | High
The price for Juvelook Shine is all-inclusive, covering anesthesia and other fees.
This is because anesthesia is recommended for this treatment, so the standard practice is to perform it after applying anesthetic cream or administering local anesthesia.
About Pain and the Use of Anesthesia
All of the methods use ultra-fine needles, but you may feel a slight prickling.
Some people worry about pain, but please rest assured that this treatment is generally performed after applying anesthetic cream or administering local anesthesia.
Downtime, Side Effects, and Risks
Symptoms: redness at the needle-puncture sites, swelling, edema, bruising, and temporary raised areas
Duration: approximately 24 hours
Redness and raised areas (bumps in the skin) at the injection site usually return to normal within about 24 hours.
Especially in areas with thin skin, such as under the eyes, bruising may occur, but it gradually fades over 10 to 14 days. In most cases it can be covered with makeup.
[Risks]
- Lumps: reported as a rare risk with PDLLA formulations, but because the particles in Juvelook Shine are very fine, this risk is kept to a minimum.
- Allergy: although extremely rare, an allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid or PDLLA may occur. If you are prone to allergies, please consult us beforehand.
- Infection: if bacteria enter through the injection site, there is a risk of infection. We adhere strictly to sterile technique. Please avoid touching the puncture sites as much as possible after treatment.
Effects after treatment, how long they last, and the number of sessions
- When the effect appears: from about 2 weeks after treatment
- Recommended number of sessions: 3 times, one month apart (one course)
- Duration of effect: 3 to 6 months
- Maintenance frequency: after one course is completed, about once every 6 months
[Immediate Effects (Right After to Several Days Later)]
Thanks to the moisturizing effect of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid, it brings hydration and radiance right away.
[Medium- to Long-Term Effects (1 to 3 Months Later)]
PDLLA stimulates fibroblasts and promotes the production of new collagen and elastin. Over the course of several months, the firmness and elasticity of the skin gradually increase, and you can feel improvements in fine lines and pores.
How to Care for Yourself After Treatment
[On the Day (Immediately After Treatment to 24 Hours)]
- Please refrain from washing your face and applying makeup.
- Keep bathing to a short shower, and avoid saunas and long baths.
- Please refrain from alcohol and strenuous exercise.
The treatment area has countless tiny needle punctures. To help prevent infection, please avoid touching the treated area as much as possible on the day. From the following day onward as well, please be gentle with your skincare.
Activities that promote blood circulation can make redness and bruising more likely to appear.
[From the Next Day Onward (24 Hours Later and After)]
- You may wash your face and apply makeup.
- Please do not press hard on or massage the treated area.
- When caring for your skin, avoid rubbing and moisturize thoroughly.
[For About One Week]
- Please refrain from massage, facial treatments, and laser treatments.
Ways to Maximize the Effect
- Thorough UV protection: UV rays break down collagen. Sunscreen is essential.
- Adequate moisturizing: to help repair the micro-injuries from the needle punctures and support collagen production, apply plenty of moisture morning and night.
- A nutritionally balanced diet: be mindful to eat a good balance of protein, the building block of collagen, and vitamin C, which supports collagen production.
- Adequate sleep: skin repair and regeneration take place during sleep. Encourage the secretion of growth hormone with quality sleep.
- Not smoking: smoking constricts blood vessels and consumes large amounts of the vitamin C needed for collagen production, so we recommend refraining from it.

FAQ
- Does Juvelook Shine hurt?
-
Topical and local anesthesia are applied before treatment, so any discomfort is kept to a minimum.
- Can I apply makeup right after the treatment?
-
We recommend refraining from makeup for 24 hours after treatment. After 24 hours, you may resume your usual makeup routine. However, please be careful not to rub your skin and handle it gently.
- How long is the downtime?
-
Approximately 24 hours.
In addition to redness, swelling, and temporary unevenness, bruising may appear and can last for about two weeks. In most cases, it can be covered with makeup.
- Can a lump form after the treatment?
-
The particles in Juvelook Shine are extremely fine, so the risk of a lump forming is very low compared with conventional formulations.
- When can I expect to feel the effects of Juvelook Shine?
-
Right after the injection, you can feel the hydration and radiance from the non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid. Many people gradually begin to notice pore tightening, improved firmness, and reduced fine lines from about two weeks onward.
- How often should I receive treatment?
